Blanket scarves can be tricky. They are typically a large square piece of fabric, that if you don’t know what you are doing, can make you look like you are wearing a literal blanket. And we don’t want that do we? So after a few reader requests, I decided to put together a tutorial showing the 3 ways I wear blanket scarves. These tutorials work best for a blanket scarf that has four equal sides, but could easily be adapted to other scarf types. I bought the scarf pictured at Zara. Ok, it’s technically Shelby’s scarf….but I’m stealing it 🙂
1. Fold your blanket scarf into a triangle
2. Keeping the bulk of the scarf in front of you, cross the two ends behind your neck
3. Bring the two ends to the front, and tie in a loose knot so it falls about halfway down the bulk of the scarf
1. Start by grabbing one corner of the scarf in one hand. Run down the length of the scarf with the opposite hand, creating one long and skinny piece of fabric.
2. Find the center point of the fabric and twist it a few times. This is the thickest point of the scarf and the twisted part is what will sit at the back of your neck.
3. Place the scarf behind your head, centering it at the base of your neck.
4. Grab one of the ends of the fabric and slip it under the opposite side
5. Continue by bringing that same end towards your face and pulling it through the loop you have now created around your neck.
6. Tuck the end into the knot you created to secure
1. Start by grabbing one corner of the scarf in one hand. Run down the length of the scarf with the opposite hand, creating one long and skinny piece of fabric.
2. Find the center point of the scarf and place it at the front of your neck directly under your chin
3. Cross the two ends behind your neck and bring back to the front
4. One at a time, take each end towards your face and pull them over and through the loop you created around your neck
5. You can finish the look here by leaving the ends loose or tying them in a loose knot.
6. To create the look of an infinity scarf, tuck the ends under the loop and fluff the scarf as needed.
Do you own any blanket scarves? I own more than I care to admit. But once you know how to wear them, they are a great way to quickly elevate any outfit.
