Love Letter to Snow

love letter to snow

Hey y’all! Guess what? It’s finally SNOWING! I’m watching the snow fall through the window from the comfort of my warm and cozy bed as I type this on Sunday afternoon. I was beginning to think we may have New York City’s first snowless winter. And OF COURSE we would have a snowless winter after I finally broke down and purchased snow boots. But alas, the snow has arrived. Maybe it has to do with growing up in Texas, where it rarely snows, but i still get giddy with anticipation with every snowfall. I regretfully can’t sense the snow, like Lorelai can, but I love it just like she does. (P.S. have you heard the latest on the revival?!)

Six or seven years ago, Dallas got its largest snowfall ever (it was only about a foot), but the whole city shut down for several days. Shelby and I built our first ever snowman- Sally. Sally had oreo eyes and an m&m mouth and looked so stylish in her striped scarf. I realized that day that building a snowman is very hard work.

It was so fun to see our neighborhood completely transformed under a magical blanket of snow.

The first major snowstorm I experienced after moving to NYC actually occurred just a few days after hurricane Sandy hit. That was a weird weather week. It’s crazy to think that occurred the first week of November and here we are mid-January just now seeing the first flakes of the winter season.

Central Park after a big snowstorm is one of my favorite places in the entire world. I can’t wait for my yearly Central Park snow walk this winter. When it’s still snowing in May, we’ll see if I still feel the same way about snow. Spoiler alert- I probably will still love it just the same 🙂

I’ll leave you with this poem I found while I was cleaning up the notes in my phone this weekend. I wrote it really late one night a few years ago while watching the snow blanket the city from my apartment window.

The city streets are quiet

No one in sight

The snow is softly falling

What a pretty night

Where do you fall on the topic of snow? Love it? Or over it?
