If you’re looking to experience the best of the best in New York’s food scene Smorgasburg is a can’t miss. On the daytime talk show The Chew, chef Mario Batali called Smorgasburg “The single greatest thing I’ve ever seen gastronomically in New York City.” Smorgasburg launched in May 2011 as a spin-off of Brooklyn Flea. Every Saturday and Sunday from April through November, Smorgasburg showcases 100+ local and regional food vendors alongside the waterfront in Brooklyn with breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline.

Over the weekend we ventured out to Brooklyn to meet up with some friends and to enjoy some of the yummy food that Smorgasburg has to offer. It was SO crowded. It may have had something to do with it being the first nice weekend weather wise of the year, but it seemed like all the residents of all 5 New York City boroughs donned upon Williamsburg that beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. I would recommend arriving with some sort of plan or you might find yourself wandering around aimlessly and confused. View the list of vendors before you go so you can be on the lookout for the booths you want to try. When you arrive, do a lap to familiarize yourself with what’s there that day- making a mental note of what you want to go back to. The most popular vendors (Ramen Burger, Lonestar Empire, Red Hook Lobster, Home Frite) tend to have really long lines but they are every bit worth the wait.
Some of our favorite vendors are BeeHive Oven, Dough, Grady’s Cold Brew, Home Frite, Milk Truck, mofonGo, Wooly’s, Pop Pasta and People’s Pops.
On Saturdays Smorgasburg is located at East River State Park (Kent Ave. and N. 7 St.) on the Williamsburg waterfront and Sundays it is at Prospect Park. Both locations are open from 11am to 6pm.
A few things to know before you go-
Most vendors only accept cash so be sure to stop by the ATM before arriving.
If you’re local go check out Smorgasburg this weekend! If you’re not local but planning to visit NYC before November be sure to add a trip to Smorgasburg to your itinerary. You won’t regret it!
