Happy Friday everyone! We finally made it to the weekend. Has this week been long to anyone else? We are still working hard on getting our new apartment fully furnished and decorated! We are so close to being able to show y’all! Can’t wait, but until then we have a little more to share about London.
London, and England in general, is one of our favorite places we have ever been! There is so much culture and beauty that you can’t go wrong anywhere you go. We highly recommend it for your next vacation! So, if you are planning a trip soon, or know you are headed to good ole England, here are 10 travel tips you need to know!
Public Transportation is very easy. Seriously. Don’t spend a ton of money on cabs. You can even take the underground from Heathrow Airport. Grab an Oyster Card and head underground. It’s so easy to navigate. And locals are always willing to point you in the right direction in the event you do happen to get lost.
You will find amazing food options. Some of the best food I have ever eaten has been in England. From a greasy fry up to a Sunday roast and everything in between you won’t be disappointed. Check out our post of Where To Eat In London for some inspiration.
Visit all of the local markets. Portobello, Borough, Camden, Spitalfields just to name a few! If you want to fit in with the locals, try the local food, and still have a great time the markets are perfect for you. The food is amazing, and you can pick up some souvenirs that you will love forever.
You don’t need to tip. Don’t get me wrong, if you had exceptional service feel free to add an extra tip. Check your bill though, because most of the time a service charge is already added.
Do The Walking Tours. Especially if this is your first trip to London. We have done the Jack The Ripper Tour and the Royal London & Changing of the Guard. Each one was unique and awesome! Totally worth it! Plus, They are free!
It’s Expensive. Truly, especially if you are coming from the US. Fortunately, the exchange rate is much better now than it was when we lived in London. Take advantage of that and head across the pond now.
Most Museums Are Free. Head to the British Museum, The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum, and many more for a free experience. For some special exhibitions there will be an extra charge.
Take Tons Of Pictures. Everywhere you look there is a fantastic picture waiting to happen. Be present in the moment, but do take advantage of the scenery so you can look back on your trip! If you are looking for the perfect Instagram, check out our Most Instagramable Spots In London.
Plan An Afternoon Tea. Whether you want a more traditional tea at Kensington Palace, or a more trendy tea at sketch, you must add a high tea to your itinerary. When In England, you must do as the British do.
The Currency Is The British Pound Sterling. The current exchange rate is 1 USD to .76GBP. You most likely will not need any cash during your trip, but in case you do, use a secure ATM inside of a bank.
We already can’t wait to head back to England soon. One of our best friends and her family just moved there, so we will definitely be back soon! Hope y’all have a great weekend!
