Oh, Hallmark Christmas movies. Love them or hate them, they have become somewhat of a staple of the Christmas season. Are they incredibly cheesy and predictable? Sure. Do I watch them anyway? Yes. I like them because they all basically follow the exact same formula- girl meets boy, usually in some small Christmas themed town, they do some festive activities, fall in love, kiss at the end while it starts to snow. And sometimes there is a dog. Or a kid. Or both! One night I found myself scrolling through the free book section on my iPad, and came across some Christmas themed books. Since they were free, I downloaded them thinking what did I have to lose? Having made my way through most of them, here are 3 books to read if you like Hallmark Christmas movies.
Overall takeaways-
All of these books seem to be set in Marietta, Montana. After the first two I thought it was just a weird coincidence. And then it kept happening. Why? Is this some Christmas romance novel rule? They all talk about the same city landmarks, the same Christmas events, they all have a Christmas Ball that apparently a prince is attending? In Marietta. Yeah, sure.
His Christmas Miracle by Dani Collins
In this book, the guy gets custody of a kid he had that he didn’t know about, hires a nanny to help him get adjusted over the holidays, and falls in love with said nanny. They become one big happy family.
A Mistletoe Kiss by Jennifer Faye
In this book, the boy falls in love with the girl next door. Literally. Doesn’t get much more predictable than that. Also happens to be the plot of a Hallmark Christmas movie I was watching last night, haha. There was also a cat (which is sometimes substituted for the required dog or kid) named Pixie which made me smile because I had a dog named Pixie.
Doctor for Christmas by Patricia Fischer
In this book, the guy finds out about twins he didn’t know about (sound familiar? but it’s different- it’s twins!) and is bringing them to Marietta to meet his family. They get into a car accident on the way into town (they crash into Santa in his sleigh, you really can’t (can?) make this shit up!) and the guys falls in love with the girl, a nurse who helps, well, nurse him back to health.
These books are all linked in our Amazon Shop if you want to join me on this journey. Highly recommend reading with a glass of wine.
