A Calming Environment Brings A Calming Mind
Something that was really important to me when we moved into this apartment was to make sure that my bedroom was as calming and cozy as it could be. In my dream life my bedroom would be very minimal with just my bed, a nightstand, my diffuser,a candle, and some fairy lights. Unfortunately, because we live in New York it doesn’t work that way. I spend most of my time in my room because we don’t have a separate office, and Ashley and Allix make me keep the lights off in the kitchen and the living room. How they can work in the dark is beyond me.
My room is also full of stuff because quite frankly there is no where else to put it. I have worked really hard to keep it clutter free, and I went through a big purging face when we moved. I am totally in need of another one though. I have so much clothing, which takes up a lot of space. One day I would love to have a capsule wardrobe, but I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet. I do have a few ways to spruce up your room, so if you live like us and really need a bedroom redo, or you are just looking for ways to bring some calming aspects into your bedroom this is the post for you!
[one_half padding=”0 3px 0 0px”][/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 0px 0 3px”][/one_half_last]Candles. Scents, aromatherapy, and light are all things that bring calmness into my life. I make sure to always have candles around my bedroom. I only choose scents that bring my joy and calm my anxious mind. You know how much we love Bath & Body Works Candles, but recently I have been reaching for others based on scent, but also the packaging. I have been loving Diptyque, Skandinavisk, and these from Anthropologie.
Fairy Lights. I wonder how many times I can say the word light in this post. I’m a firm believer that light brings joy, happiness, and calm into your environment. Don’t get me wrong, I love the dark but only when it’s supposed to be dark. during the winter months I really utilized fairy lights all over my room. I’m not a huge lamp person, but give me all of the fairy lights.
Light Colors. Here I go again with light again! This is actually the first time in my entire life that I have had plain white bedding. I have always had something with a crazy print ever since I was born. It was actually a very stressful experience switching over to plain white. Ash and I had many arguments standing in the bedding isle in Target because she couldn’t understand why this was so hard. In all honesty though it was one of the best decisions I made in my room. It truly opened everything up and makes my room more adult.
Keep Surfaces Clean & Tidy. There is nothing worse than walking into a room where every surface is just full of junk. I try to keep every surface in my room decluttered. As you can tell I obviously have some things on my surfaces like my pictures, my perfumes, my diffuser, my jewelry, and candles. Sometimes I find myself setting other things on there and after about 30 minutes my anxiety chimes in and I swiftly move it all away. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways that you can bring calm into your space.
Relaxing Music or Sounds. I actually haven’t talked about music very much but it is a huge part of my life. I always have some sort of music or sound playing. It all changes depending on my mood, but in my room I usually go for something relaxing. I make playlists that I know will keep me calm. I even love piano or spa music. Thank goodness for streaming services right!?
