What We Did, Where We Stayed, What We Ate
This past weekend we headed to Asheville, NC for a few days. We met up with our parents, and spent a few days enjoying peak foliage in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We flew into Charlotte, and took a shuttle for a two hour drive to Asheville. And by “shuttle” I mean a guy with a mini van and we were his only passengers. It was a little weird, but we’re very used to trusting strangers to drive us around in NYC, so after chatting a bit Shelbs and I put on our headphones and enjoyed the scenery. I listened to the Dirty John podcast on the drive. Has anyone else listened to it yet? I’m not quite done yet, but it’s really good!

Our driver dropped us off at the Aloft hotel in downtown Asheville where our parents were staying. After dropping off our bags, we headed out to do a little shopping and explore the downtown area. We popped into a few boutiques, but our favorite was Duncan & York! We liked it so much we headed back there the next day to pick up a few more things.

Runner up was probably Biscuit Head.

On our second day, we did some more shopping around downtown Asheville. We popped into the Mast General Store (which reminded us a lot of the Vermont Country Store) before checking in to the Grand Bohemian Hotel across the street from Biltmore for the rest of our stay. This was a really fun place to stay with lots of great amenities in a great location. We walked around Biltmore Village popping into some boutiques and art galleries before settling on an early dinner at The Cantina. Once we saw they had queso on the menu, we were sold. We ended the night hanging out in the bar in our hotel with a few cocktails listening to live music.
We spent the whole next day at Biltmore. We started the day with a tour of the house, before we grabbed lunch at an outdoor cafe and perusing the gift shop. Then we headed over to Antler Village for a little wine tasting and more shopping. We’ll share more details of our day at Biltmore next week!
On our last day, we headed back to downtown Asheville for brunch. We grabbed a coffee to go from Double D’s which was the CUTEST coffee shop on a red double decker bus from England. It had been closed earlier in the week when we were downtown because they were renovating their patio, so we were very excited to see it was open! It was fun to head upstairs to the top level of the bus and pretend we were back in England for a minute. We grabbed our coffees and piled into the car to drive back to Charlotte to catch our flights.
