Add These To Your Reading List
We’re off to Wales tonight and we are so excited to get out of the city and escape to the countryside for a few days. Because I imagine many of you may be doing the same this weekend, or or at least planning some travels for the summer, I wanted to share some of the books I’ve read lately in case you were looking for some recommendations.
Royals– If you still can’t get enough royal wedding content in your life, this is the book for you! This is a super easy read (I read it front to back one Saturday morning) and I think it’s targeted more for young adults but I really enjoyed it. The basic plot follows Daisy, the little sister of a soon to be American born princess of Scotland, and how her life gets turned upside down because of her sister’s choices. I’ve heard there’s going to be a sequel which I will definitely be reading!
Sweetbitter– This book was very popular when it came out a couple of years ago, but I somehow missed it when it came out. I first learned about it when I stumbled upon the TV set for the new show on Starz (based on the novel), which is filming in the city, and I looked it up. The basic plot is a coming of age story of a small town girl who moves to New York City and gets a job working in one of the cities most prestigious restaurants. She’s young and naive but also driven and ready to learn. Based on that, I was intrigued enough to buy it. I will say that this book is definitely NOT a beach read. While I think that it was very well written, it is also one that you have to read between the lines in parts. Some of it reads more like a diary, with seemingly random strings of thoughts that are hard to follow at times. This book isn’t going to be for everyone, but if you have been a lost, wondering twenty-something, have worked in the service industry, or enjoy intellectually written novels you will enjoy this.
[one_half padding=”0 3px 0 0″][/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 0 0 3px”][/one_half_last]Sweet Laurel– While technically a book, it’s probably not what you think, ha ha. This is my new favorite cookbook! It’s a baking cookbook, from the bakery of the same name in Los Angeles. I haven’t had it that long yet, but it’s one of those cookbooks that you flip through and want to make every single recipe. Sweet Laurel is a whole foods baking company, meaning, no filler, no weird stuff. Just the best organic, whole ingredients going into delicious grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free baked goods. Most of the items are made with less than five ingredients, and none of them are the wacky gums and stabilizers you’ll find in most gluten free and paleo products. Everything is easy to find at your local grocery store. I try to stay away from gluten and refined sugar, so all of these recipes are right up my ally. I’ve made a few things so far and they’ve all been excellent! If you enjoy baking, and look for healthy alternatives that are quick and easy to make, you’ll love this cookbook!
