Finding A Fitness Routine

Finding Your Perfect Fitness Routine

Finding Your Fitness Routine

Hey Y’all! I just want to start of this post by saying that I am in no way an expert on this topic. I just want to talk about my experience, and what I enjoy.

A few weeks back I talked about the fact that I wasn’t loving our gym, and I thought I might end my membership and just take some barre, pilates, and spin classes on my own. Well fast forward a couple of months and Ash, Allix, and I have all joined a different gym.

Let’s take it back a little bit. I started dancing when I was 2, and competitive dancing at age 6. In addition to that I was a cheerleader, and played volleyball. So, needless to say I was very active. It didn’t really matter what I ate, and I didn’t have to supplement with other exercise. I did start supplementing towards the end of high school when I cut back on my dancing slightly. I joined Lifetime Fitness and I absolutely loved it. I just really enjoy that kind of environment at a gym. There is a spa, a cafe, a plethora of different classes, indoor & outdoor pool etc. It’s so big and spread out that you truly don’t really notice anyone else there with you. Unfortunately, when I moved to New York they didn’t have any clubs here so I had to cancel my membership. My school had a gym, so I didn’t feel the need to get a membership somewhere, until I graduated.

Back in 2015, Ash & I joined New York Sports Club. It was cheap, well cheaper than other places, and conveniently located to our apartment. In the back of my head though I new I always wanted to join Equinox, because it was the closest thing to Lifetime. It is a huge financial commitment, and I just knew I couldn’t do it back then. NYSC was fine, but it was just your standard gym. There was nothing special. As I had mentioned before I found myself getting board, not excited to go to the gym, and finding excuses not to go. Kind of when I was at my breaking point, Allix brought up Equinox and suggested we all go try it out and see if we liked it.

We got a weekend pass and tried out so many classes and the gym floor. I fell in love the second we walked in. I knew it was that environment that I have been craving. It was like Lifetime, but on a whole different level. It’s different because this is in a city environment, and it can’t be as spread out as my old gym in Texas.

As y’all know, we signed up and the rest is history. We have been going for a little over a month and I think I love it even more than we did when we started. I take Pilates, Barre, & Sculpt Society classes as well as working out on my own. Sculpt Society if you don’t know it basically a cardio dance class with a ton of sculpting using different weights. It’s so much fun and i’m obsessed. Megan Roup created it. Follow her on Instagram to see what it’s all about! Here is an example of how my week can look:

Sunday– Pilates + Cardio (Elliptical)

Monday– Cardio (Elliptical) + Ab & Leg Weight Machines

Tuesday– Equinox Barre Burn

Wednesday– Day Off

Thursday– True Barre

Friday– Day Off or Cardio or Sculpt Society

Saturday– Sculpt Society + Ab & Leg Weight Machines

Finding Your Fitness Routine

I think the key to finding a fitness routine is doing something that brings you joy. If you are having a terrible time working out, then your body is not going to benefit from that. You need to find things that you enjoy, and maybe a friend who loves it too or can keep you accountable. You will try lots of things you hate before finding things that you love. Don’t let it discourage you.
