I’m a big fan of Urban Decay’s Naked palettes. For many years now that’s pretty much all I’ve used when doing my eye makeup with one exception. If I wanted a smoky eye look, I always looked elsewhere as the Naked palettes lean more towards the browns/taupes/pinks color family. Until now. Urban Decay recently launched their Smoky palette and I pre-ordered it from Sephora I was that excited. I can’t recall the last time I pre-ordered anything, let alone makeup. At $54 it’s not cheap, however, the price is easily justified when it’s something I’ve been reaching for on a daily basis.
This palette is amazing and is packed with all the essentials needed to create the perfect neutral smoky eye. The first thing I noticed is how much easier this palette is to open versus the other Naked palettes as it offers a magnetic closure. The palette includes a brand new double-ended brush featuring a tapered crease brush on one end and a smoky smudger brush on the other. The shadows are super pigmented but easily blendable.
From left to right the 12 shadows in this palette are: High (champagne shimmer micro-glitter), Dirtysweet (medium bronze), Radar (metallic taupe iridescent micro-glitter), Armor (metallic silver-taupe tonal sparkle), Slanted (light metallic gray), Dagger (medium charcoal micro-shimmer), Black Market (jet-black satin), Smolder (deep plum-taupe), Password (cool taupe matte), Whiskey (rich brown matte), Combust (soft pink-taupe), Thirteen (light beige satin)
When you think of a smoky eye, the first thing that probably comes to mind is a dramatic night look meant for going out. The incredible thing about this palette is that it is very easy to create smoky eye looks subtle enough for day time. We’ve pulled together two different daytime looks using different shades from the Naked Smoky palette.
For our first daytime smoky look we used Thirteen all over as the base, then used Password in the crease, swept Combust on the lid, smudged Dagger in the outer corners, then finished with High in middle of the lid.
For our second daytime smoky look we used Thirteen all over as the base, swept Combust all over the lid, used Whiskey in crease and smudged it into the outer corners, then finished with Dirtysweet in middle of the lid.
Finish off both looks with some black eyeliner and a few swipes of mascara (this one is my new fav).
