Add These To Your Reading List
It’s accidentally been 11 months almost to the day since I’ve done one of these posts. Oops. It’s really more because I barely picked up a book the end of 2018/early 2019. But I’ve more than made up for it this summer. Here are the 13 books I’ve read lately.
- One Day In December – A story about love at first sight, through a bus window, with a stranger. And then the bus pulls away. What follows is a decade of searching, heartache, and ultimately destiny. Loved this book!
- Everything I Know About Love – I originally found Dolly Alderton through her podcast The High Low and her memoir is one of my favorite books I’ve read in a long time. She thoughtfully recounts stories of her 20s in a way that will have you nodding along and laughing out loud.
- The Killer Collective – This thriller is a fast-paced page turner full of twists and turns. With a rotating point of view, this novel keeps your attention from page one.
- A Lily In The Light – As a former dancer, I definitely found myself immediately relating to the main character in this book as she discovers and develops her love of ballet. But at its core this is a novel about a family who is thrust into chaos, and follows their heart wrenching journey through a very dramatic event.
- The Overdue Life of Amy Blyer – This is a fun easy read. The story is a relatable and entertaining look at parenthood, divorce, dating, and everything in between.
- The Upside of Falling Down – This is a contemporary YA novel set in Ireland. The main character wakes up in a hospital, the lone survivor of a plane crash, with amnesia and what follows is her journey to discover herself.
- The Memory of You – This is the first book in a series and I love a good series. It’s a heart warming and emotional romance novel about healing a former relationship but also healing yourself.
- The Promise of Us – The second book in the series (the third book will be released this fall) follows a character you were introduced to in the first book. It’s about forgiveness, taking chances, and living life to the fullest.
- Match Making For Beginners – I found this novel to be a bit too slow paced for my taste. I also had a hard time buying the main romance, and just as I was starting to the book ended. While there is a lot I would change about the structure of the story, I did love seeing the main character fall in love with one of the other main characters in the book- New York City.
- The Wedding Date – Another series! I read all three of these in about as many days while we were in Jamaica. After a chance encounter in an elevator, and an impromptu invitation to attend a wedding of an ex, the fake relationship suddenly turns real. The story is light-hearted and a quick read.
- The Proposal – The second novel in this series follows a character you very briefly meet in The Wedding Date and is about what happens when a public proposal doesn’t turn into a happily ever after. I found this story a little less exciting than The Wedding Date, but it was still an enjoyable beach read.
- The Wedding Party – This third novel in the series is more closely tied to The Wedding Date than it is to The Proposal. The story starts on a parallel track with the first novel, which had me a little confused for a moment. While it isn’t crucial that you read the other books in the series, if you’re going to read them definitely read The Wedding Date before as this one is more of a true sequel while The Proposal stands more on its own.
- Elenor Oliphant Is Completely Fine – Ok so I didn’t love this novel. I was halfway through this book before I felt anything was happening. It is set in present day, and the main character and I are the same age, and she is so out of touch with technology in a way that is so unreliable for any millennial. She is quirky and eccentric in a way I struggle to relate to. But I didn’t see the twist at the end coming, which says a lot because it’s rare that that happens to me, so it won a few points back. This book is currently being turned into a movie, so it will be interesting to see how it is translated on screen.
