El Vez

Where To Eat In NYC

El Vez

Shelbs and I have made it our mission to find the best Mexican food in NYC. We have several favorites, and Javelina is the closest to the Tex-Mex we grew up eating, but we recently tried El Vez downtown in the Financial District and it is definitely a new favorite!

Let’s start with the drink menu because it’s insane. I had heard that the frozen blood orange margarita was popular so I decided to give it a go. It was excellent! More tart than sweet, which is perfect for me. Shelby ordered the lavender honey jalapeño margarita which was simply filled with some of her all time favorite flavors and it didn’t disappoint. Next time I’d probably order the skinny paloma or the cucumber mint, but the red bell pepper margarita also sounds very intriguing.

We started with the classic guacamole made with cilantro, lime, onion, jalapeño & cotija cheese. It was nice and fresh and we devoured it quickly along with the fresh chips and salsas that came with it. For dinner I ordered the cauliflower tacos and Shelbs ordered the chicken enchiladas. The tacos didn’t come with a side, which to be honest is a pet peeve of mine, so I ordered a side of the refried black beans. I scooped a little into each of my tacos for a little hit of protein. The enchiladas did come with a side of rice and beans. We don’t often order dessert out, but we were craving a bite of something sweet so decided to split the El Vez sundae. We ate it so fast we didn’t grab a photo of it, but it was huge!

10 out of 10 would recommend. We already can’t wait to go back! Next time maybe we’ll go for drinks and split the nachos! FYI reservations are recommended.
