Full disclosure- this post is not for the faint of heart. If the mere thought of the aftermath of the worst sunburn of your life freaks you out (re: peeling), feel free to skip this post and come back tomorrow. But, FYI there are no photos of gross feet.
If you follow us on snapchat (username ashandshelbs) you might have seen we tried a foot peel a few weeks ago. I can’t remember where I first heard about it, but after a summer of walking all over the city, my feet were in need of some serious TLC. After reading some reviews, I decided to give this foot peel from The Face Shop a try. It contains really strong fruit and vegetable acids that help to remove all of the dead skin from your feet.
In the box are foot booties and a foil packet filled with the magic foot peeling liquid. The booties are double layered, with the outer layer made of a thin plastic sheet and the inner layer is a soft fabric.
Here’s what we did and what you can expect:
- You want to start with clean feet without any open wounds.
- You’re going to be sitting for awhile, so be sure to have a book, the tv remote, and a snack within reach.
- Place your feet in the booties (they are double-lined, so make sure to place your feet inside both layers) and pour in the liquid
- Soak for an hour and a half
- During the soak, your feet start to feel odd. It’s not a burning sensation (it’s not that harsh at all), but you definitely (subtlety) feel the product working
- Rinse completely. Your feet don’t look or feel much different immediately. They’ll feel a little pruney, like after you’ve been swimming or soaking in a long bath. Your skin feels a little tight and dry. Resist the urge to moisturize.
- Wait. Then wait some more. Nothing will happen for at least 4 days. Honestly, I forgot I had even done it and was waiting for something to happen
- 4-5 days later your feet will look disgusting. Like the worst sun burn of your life is just starting to peel. Prepare yourself, this is where it starts to get gross. You’re going to want to wear socks 24/7 for two reasons- so you don’t have to look at your feet and so you’re not constantly having to sweep up dead skin.
- For the next several days, your skin will start to peel off in sheets. I now feel like I know what a snake feels like when it sheds it’s skin.
- To expedite the process, soak your feet in warm water and then gently use a pumice stone to work off some of the skin.
After I got past the initial shock of what was happening to my feet, I was able to appreciate how well the product worked. And boy did it work. Before I did the foot peel my feet were gross. I had bad calluses on my heels and the balls of my feet and they are completely gone. Even the best pedicure couldn’t have gotten rid of those puppies. This isn’t something I would do very often, maybe a couple times a year, and at under $10 it’s such a steal!
Have you tried this? Did it work for you? If you haven’t tried it, would you?
