Lake George, NY | Travel Diary

Lake George

Last weekend we headed off on an epic road trip to the tiny town of Hague, New York for a beautiful fall weekend on Lake George. October is my favorite month for two reasons, my birthday and the beginning of fall. I had one request for my birthday, I wanted to spend the weekend in a rustic cabin surrounded by all things autumn. During one of my late night Google searches I stumbled upon Trout House Village and instantly fell in love. I called them right away and booked what was soon to be one of my favorite trips to date. Prepare yourself for a very picture heavy post, but trust me your eyes will thank me!

Ashley, Allix, and I picked up our rental car, a luxury for us car-less Manhattanites, and headed north. After listening to Adele’s new song on repeat for 4 hours, we arrived on Friday night and checked into the Eagles Nest, which we later found out is their favorite cabin on the property. It was absolutely breathtaking and the perfect size for the three of us. It had a fireplace, a good size living room, and a full kitchen. There was a murphy bed downstairs and upstairs was an open loft with a king size and a twin size bed. We had not one, but TWO giant jacuzzi tubs in each of our two bathrooms. Now, our apartment is fairly large by New York apartment standards, but having all this space was a welcome change. We also had an amazing patio with a wonderful view of the lake. My favorite part of the cabin was the view of the lake and sunrise from our beds up in the loft. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

There was a total of 4 tv’s in the cabin, even in the bathrooms! A gigantic jet tub and a TV?! I mean, come on?! Can that get any better? I don’t want to admit how much time I spent in there. We also definitely took advantage of the fireplace because that is not a luxury we get in New York City. We had it burning the entire time. We snuggled on the couch, stuffing our faces with Halloween Oreos, and used some interesting Korean face masks that Ashley brought along. She made me use a snake one….that was an interesting experience that I’m not sure I want to talk about.

We woke up each morning to watch the sunrise with our coffee and homemade apple bread & apple butter. Full disclosure, it was about 27 degrees during sunrise, so we were covered from head to toe in warm clothing. We looked like Eskimos perched on our Adirondack chairs!

There is a mile long hiking trail on the property that we couldn’t pass up. We walked up to a lookout that has a perfect view of the lake and the Adirondack Mountains. We obviously had to stop for some mini photo shoots and threw lots of leaves at each other. The silence was amazing at the top of the lookout. We couldn’t help but take a seat and enjoy the beauty.

We then further braved the cold weather and walked down to the dock on the lake. We tried to take a mental photograph of the beauty because pictures do not do it justice. I dared Ashley to touch the water. She did…turns out it wasn’t as cold as the air around us.

It was hard to say goodbye when we left on Sunday, but I will definitely  be coming back. It was the perfect getaway, and exactly what I wanted for my birthday trip.

As fun and relaxing as our time at Lake George was, on our way back home we might have had even more fun. Stay tuned, more on that soon! 🙂
