So, I have something I need to admit…Hi I’m Shelby and I love wine! I love it so much that instead of throwing a huge 21st birthday bash, I wanted to go on a family trip to Napa, California instead. That was probably one of the best decisions I have made in my short lifetime. Here I’ve picked my top 3 Napa wineries that I think you need to visit.
Duckhorn Vineyards is my absolute favorite winery. The whole experience was seamless and relaxing. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking, and the wines on your taste buds will not disappoint. The tasting occurs on the wrap around porch of the house on the grounds. My favorite wine we tasted was The Discussion which was a 2010 red blend. Needless to say, we went home with 2 bottles.
Grgich Hills Estate was one we hadn’t planned on visiting. A representative came to our hotel our first night in Napa and did a smaller wine tasting. It was then that we decided we needed to go visit. I’m so glad we did, because Ashley and I were able to relive our I Love Lucy days and stomp some grapes. That is an experience I will never forget. Now, I am definitely a red wine girl but my favorite wine we tasted was actually a dessert wine which they call Violetta. It has a nice light and airy taste that is wonderful to end a meal. We walked away with many wines, and we still order from them.
Pine Ridge was the second vineyard we visited on our trip, and we fell in love instantly. The views of the mountains were unreal. The tasting room itself seemed very small, but the wines made up for it. There was also a room full of barrels of wine that you could go in a take pictures. That was a fun experience for us. My favorite wine we tasted was a limited edition red blend called The Onyx.
Fun Facts We Learned In Napa:
- Grapes wear sunscreen
- The grapes that grow closely to the ground result in earthy wines
- Thomas Volney Munson, a Texas native, saved the French wine industry in 1880
- All grape juice is clear, the skins are what makes it red
Have any of you ever been to Napa? If so, what are your favorite wineries? Leave us a comment and let us know!
