Hey y’all! Everything looks a little new around here doesn’t it? We thought it was time for a change, and we are so happy with it! Let us know what you think!
Today I’m going to let you in on a little secret, the Upper East Side’s best kept secret to be a fact. Carl Schurz Park is our little oasis up here. Yes we can easily access Central Park, but on a summers day in Central Park you would think you were standing in general admission at a concert. Sweaty and not fun. Ash and I have been hesitant to post about our favorite park because we like having it as our secret. I think everyone on the Upper East Side feels the same way.
Stretched along the East River from 84th-90th streets, Carl Schurz Park is 14.9 acres. It houses two different dog parks, a basketball court, a kids playground, tons of green space, a river esplanade, and Gracie Mansion. The mayor of New York lives in the mansion located at the top of the park.
I love how many benches and long pathways there are in the park. They make for a great stroll or a run. There are several sets of stairs which are perfect for getting in a quick workout. All of the trees, plants, and flowers are taken care of by volunteers.
A summer activity that almost every New Yorker takes part in is summers movies in the park. They are offered in tons of parks around the city, with Bryant Park being the most popular. Well, Carl Schurz Park does them as well, and they are a blast! Definitely not as crowded as Bryant Park. Last year we went to watch Frozen. This year is Inside Out and Ocean’s 11.
Every December they have a tree lighting just like Rockefeller Center. To be honest, we had no idea that they did this until earlier this year when I was perusing the website, I already can’t wait until December 4th!
Do any of y’all have a special place where you live where you like to go? Let us know in the comments below, and if you ever come to NYC you have to come to our Upper East Side oasis!
