We just returned from a week in France, and had the best time! Our brother, Ethan, is living in Bordeaux, France right now, so we took a day from our Paris trip to go see him and visit the city of Bordeaux. We took a 3 hour train in from Paris, and Ethan met us at the train station.

Bordeaux is probably best known for being a famous wine region. It’s located in the southwest of France, about an hour away from the coast. I had always pictured Bordeaux to be a sleepy little country town, but it’s actually quite large and surprisingly urban.

We dropped our bags off at Ethan’s apartment, and set out to explore the city. We grabbed sandwiches from a little storefront and walked around the main shopping area.

In the afternoon we headed to La Cité du Vin, a fantastic wine museum that opened less than a year ago. We picked up a bottle of champagne in the gift shop, stopped into a grocery store for some cheese, and hung out back at Ethan’s apartment for a bit just catching up.

That evening we met up with some of Ethan’s friends for drinks and appetizers at a wine bar before heading to dinner. The French eat notoriously late- our dinner reservation was for 10PM! We had a very enjoyable night eating great food, and obviously drinking lots of Bordeaux.

We headed back to Paris first thing the next morning. It was a very brief trip, but it was nice to see a new city, meet some new people, and experience a new culture. We already can’t wait to go back, but next time we want to be sure to go out to the countryside and taste our way through the vineyards!

Dinner at 10pm!! Do the French tend to start their day later then?

I know! crazy right!? I think they start the day at the same time as us, but they like to have wine and appetizers around 7:00, so they end up eating late! I’m not sure I could do that every night!
