Oslo, Norway | Travel Diary

Hey y’all!

Despite the blizzard that hit the East coast this week, we made it back from our Norway trip. We had such an amazing time! If you follow us on Instagram, you’ve seen a sneak peek of what we got up to, but today we wanted to share part one of our trip with you. We flew into Oslo on Norwegian Airlines (they have great cheap flights to Europe!). We were only in Oslo for about 15 hours before we headed off to our next destination, but we circled back around to Oslo on our last day and spent another 15 hours or so. All together we were there about a day. In between, we took the famous Norway in a Nutshell Tour, which we’ll be telling you more about next week.

Upon arrival into Oslo, we checked into our hotel and set off to explore the city for a bit.

Our first stop was the National Gallery where we got to see the famous painting by Edvard Munch- “The Scream”. This museum is great to visit if you are short on time. You can walk through the whole thing in about an hour.

We grabbed an early dinner at Cafe Cathedral. The food was great and the waitstaff was very friendly and spoke English. In fact, everyone we encountered spoke enough English for us to be able to communicate effectively. They offer some local delicacies (like reindeer) but we passed on eating Rudolph, opting for pizza and burgers instead. We did try their traditional Norwegian Cake which was so yummy!

Jet lag started to set in, so we had an early night because we had to be up early to catch our train to Flam the next morning.

Back in Oslo for our last day of the trip, we started off the day with a visit to Tim Wendelboe’s espresso bar.

We did the coffee tasting, which allowed us to taste 4 different and distinct coffees explained to us by our very knowledgable barista. She ended up giving us a bonus fifth taste for free. If you’ve ever done a wine tasting this was a very similar experience. It was very interesting and we learned a lot. Definitely a highlight of our trip since we are big coffee lovers.

After our coffee tasting, we set out to spend our last few hours of the trip just walking around and exploring a bit more.

We headed to the Oslo Opera House which has a cool architectural design allowing you to walk on the roof. Despite the chilly weather, it offers great views of the city and the Oslo Fjord.

We shopped our way from the opera house up to the royal palace, stopping into stores like Cornelias Hus which reminded us a lot of Anthropologie in the states.

Before we knew it, it was time to head to the airport to catch our flight. We didn’t have a ton of consecutive time in Oslo, but we hit the highlights and loved what we were able to see!

Stay tuned for the next part of our Norwegian adventure on the blog next week, but you can get a sneak peek in our travel vlog below!
