Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of Fixer Upper and the Magnolia phenomenon. We’ve visited Magnolia Market many times, and even stayed at the Magnolia House. When we heard they were opening a bakery at the Silo’s we were very excited!
To be honest, I had very low expectations of these cupcakes. We love cupcakes (dare I say I’m a bit of a cupcake snob…) and living in New York City I’ve tasted some of the best. Maybe it was because I didn’t have any expectations, but I was totally unprepared for how delicious these cupcakes actually were!
These cupcakes are literally the best I’ve ever had! You have the classic flavors with cute themed names like Shiplap (vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream icing) and Silobration (vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream icing). Then you have some special flavors like Nuts and Bolts (vanilla cake filled with pecans and walnuts with cream cheese icing) and Cup O’ Jo (chocolate cake with espresso buttercream icing).
Every single flavor I’ve tried has a moist (i hate that word but there is no better way to describe it!) cake and even better icing. The icing. It’s fabulous! For as much of it that’s swirled on top of each cupcake, you would think it would be sickeningly sweet. But the amazing thing is that this frosting is actually not that sweet at all. All of the flavors seamlessly work together while not overpowering the other.
They offer special seasonal flavors as well. During the fall they had Campfire flavor that was THE BEST CUPCAKE I HAVE EVER HAD! The chocolate cake was enhanced with graham crackers, chocolate chips, and it was topped with a hand toasted marshmallow. I mean, come on! They better bring that flavor back this fall! Over the holidays they had a Wonderland flavor that was red velvet cake with peppermint icing, and that peppermint icing had the perfect whisper of peppermint paired with the delicious red velvet cake. They currently have a carrot cake and a coconut flavor for spring.
The Silo’s Baking Co has more than just cupcakes though. They have cookies and other assorted baked goods depending on the season, but the cupcakes are the shining star.
If you find yourself anywhere near Waco, TX a stop at the Silo’s Baking Co MUST be on your itinerary!
