Ashley and I have always loved musical theater and Broadway shows. Our brother grew up doing musical theater, and so did a lot of my friends. I was also a singer and dancer growing up. Needless to say, we love all things on the stage. Ash and I venture to the theater district quite often, so here are our tips and tricks on how to score cheap Broadway tickets.

TKTS
There are 3 TKTS booth locations. One in Times Square, one at the SouthStreet Seaport, and one in Downtown Brooklyn. You can go the day of, or the day before and get 50% of tickets. This is all of the leftover tickets, so you could even score a front row seat. The lines tend to be long, so get there early.
Lottery
Most shows have what they call a ticket “lottery”. To partake you have to show up to the theater, of the show of your choice, and sign up to put your name in a drawing for 2 discounted tickets to that show about 2 1/2 hours before the show begins. It’s wise to check the website individually for each show to see their lottery policy.
Standing Room Only
Some shows offer standing room only tickets for about $20-$30 dollars. This is if a show is sold out, but they can still fit people in to see the show. Of course the downside is that you have to stand, but the reward of seeing the show is greater. Call or check the website of each individual show to see if they currently have this offering.
Broadway Week
If you are in New York City for Broadway week, you are in for a treat. You receive 2 for 1 tickets on participating Broadway Week shows! Now who wouldn’t want that!?

I saw Kinky Boots, and Chicago while I was in NYC earlier this year. Took the subway to Brooklyn to get my half price tickets at TKTS (because I couldn’t be bothered with the rush of Times Square) & the guy in the sales booth was super friendly & even remembered me the following week when I went back a second time. Awesome seats, awesome experience.
