When it comes to cookies, I don’t discriminate. I love soft cookies, crispy cookies, and those yummy cookies that have a crispy exterior and a soft gooey center. Today, I’m sharing 5 of the best bakeries in New York City to satisfy your cookie craving.
If you want the best black and white cookie in NYC then head to William Greenberg bakery on the Upper East Side. If you’ve never had a black and white cookie, it’s really more of a cake. It’s comprised of a fresh, moist, cake base covered in delicious fondant icing- one side chocolate and the other vanilla. As someone who’s never met a black and white cookie they haven’t liked, the black and white cookie at William Greenberg cannot be missed. The large black and white cookies are $3.50 but they also have mini versions for $1.50 each.

2. Milk Bar
These cookies are famous among celebs (model Karlie Kloss has a line of cookies she created on the menu). There are 5 different cookie flavors on offer, but the confetti cookie and compost cookie are my favorites. The confetti cookie has a soft texture and is filled with sprinkled goodness. The compost cookie is pretty much what it sounds like, a cookie comprised of anything and everything, but specifically- pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, butterscotch and chocolate chips, striking the perfect balance between salty & sweet. At $2.25 a cookie these are the cheapest cookies on our list. Side note- while you’re at Milk Bar grabbing your cookies, also grab the birthday cake truffles. Trust me.
If you can’t wait to get your hands on one of these Milk Bar concoctions, they have many of their recipes listed here.
There are 3 locations in Manhattan and 2 in Brooklyn
Ok, these cookies are little pieces of heaven. I hadn’t tried these until recently, and I can’t believe I waited so long to try them. Levain, a bakery on the Upper West side, has 4 different cookies on offer, and I gave 3 of them a try (I’m not a big fan of oatmeal raisin). Pictured above are dark chocolate chocolate chip (left), chocolate chip walnut (center), and dark chocolate peanut butter chip (right). Each cookie seems to strike that perfect balance between a crispy outside and a soft gooey center. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I have to say the dark chocolate peanut butter chip was preeeeety tasty. Each cookie is $4, which is a little pricy for a cookie, but they are pretty big and soooooo delicious that in my opinion the price is worth it.

4. Schmackary’s
Schmackay’s, located in Midtown, offers over 65 different cookie flavors! They have certain flavors available on certain days of the week, so be sure to check the calendar on their website to see what’s on offer when you go. The four flavors they offer every day are classic chocolate chip, maple bacon, funfetti, and cookies and cream. If you can’t tell, I never turn down anything with sprinkles, so the funfetti cookie is my usual go to, but everything I’ve ever tried has been great. And at $2.75 a cookie you don’t feel guilty trying several!
362 West 45th Street New York, NY 10036
This bakery, located in the West Village, offers all the classic cookie flavors- chocolate chip, sugar, snickerdoodle, m&m, etc., however, the salted oat flavor cannot be missed. The texture of this cookie is on the crispier side and is that perfect combo of salty and sweet. Each cookie is $2.75.
