A couple of weeks ago in this vlog I did a little impromptu drug store haul. I like to use a mix of drugstore products and higher end beauty and skincare. I chatted with you guys about what I picked up and promised a more in depth review after I had a chance to give some of my new finds a try. So here I am to give you just that! As always I am going to be completely honest in my reviews, and while there were some things I got I LOVE there were also some things that I didn’t. So here goes-
The reason for my trip in the first place was to pick up some of these press on nails. It’s so much easier and quicker to apply these than to paint your own nails. I find that they last a solid 7-10 days for me. I like these because there is no glue involved. There is adhesive on the back (similar to a sticker) and all you have to do is peel off the backing and stick. Easy. If you like to have polished nails, but don’t have time for manicures give these a try!
I also grabbed a couple of the Yes To peel off masks. I have used a lot of things from this brand in the past, including their masks, but never a peel off mask. While I did like how my skin felt post-mask, it did not peel off very easily, which is my pet peeve with peel off masks. It came off pieces, and little pieces at that. I even purchased this mask tool that was supposed to aid with the peeling, but I don’t think it helped at all. I found more success peeling off with my fingernails. I did like the mask tool for applying though. It’s silicone and can be used similar to a brush to apply any mask to your face, so it doesn’t get all over your hands. Even though I didn’t feel that it worked well for it’s intended purpose, I would still recommend. It’s inexpensive and it’s easier to clean than a brush.
I picked up a bunch of sheet masks to restock my supply. There are so many sheet masks out there now it can be a little overwhelming if you’re not as familiar. The key is to know what problem you are trying to solve. Most face masks fall into common categories like hydrating, brighting, and calming. I like to have a mixture of these on hand so I have options depending on how my skin is feeling when I go to apply a mask. I haven’t used all of these yet, but it’s hard to go wrong with a sheet mask. I used this one on our staycation last weekend and really liked it.
My favorite and most used purchase was this eye shadow palette. I really didn’t think I was going to like this as much as I do. I NEVER use colors like this but have enjoyed playing with it. I’ve gotten lots of questions on my eye shadow lately and it’s all because I’ve been using this. This blush just gives a pretty glow (it’s almost more like a highlighter) but since I have a lot of natural redness to my skin I don’t generally wear a blush with any color to it so I like this one a lot. I have also been loving this eye pencil. I’ve been using it to line my bottom water line and it really makes my eyes pop. I grabbed this blush brush and this angled brush to add to my collection as well.
Sadly this Neutrogena face serum is a no go for me. My skin freaked out and I broke out into a rash. I’ve mentioned it before, but I have very sensitive skin. I’ve had past issues with the brand so I should have known better. You know their classic orange colored face wash that everyone used to use? This one. The same thing happened to me back in high school when I tried to use that. But I’ve used the Neutrogena face masks with no issues so I thought I might be fine to try this. I will say that before my skin freaked out, I did like how it felt on the skin. I thought it felt very moisturizing which is the products purpose. I’m not sure what ingredient the brand uses that I’m allergic too, but it was highly fragranced so maybe it has something to do with that? So while I have to stay away, I know plenty of people that love and use products from the brand, so I’m not trying to discourage you from trying this product, it just doesn’t work for me. I do really like this exfoliating face wash I picked up from Bliss. It’s a very gentle exfoliator, which I like, and I’ll continue to use it once a week or so for a good deep clean in rotation with my go to Cetephil face wash.
