I love sangria in the summer, but I was looking for a way to transition the traditional summer beverage into fall. We still have an abundance of apples from our trip to an apple orchard a couple weeks ago, so I knew I wanted to incorporate apples into a sangria. I prefer red wine over white, and good red wine sangria recipes are harder to find. After a quick Pinterest search, I was filled with lots of inspiration!
Ingredients:
1 bottle of red wine (we used pinot noir)
2 1/2 cups of apple cider
3-4 cinnamon sticks
4 apples, sliced
{Recipe adapted from Evermine Occasions.}
Combine all ingredients into a large pitcher and place in the fridge for a minimum of 3 hours. Serve chilled or over ice.
This sangria was so good! Pinot noir was a perfect wine choice as it’s a very light red wine. Grab a cheap bottle since you’re mixing in other components. The apple cider was surprisingly a perfect pairing with the wine. I used 4 cinnamon sticks as I wanted a strong cinnamon flavor, but you could definitely do 1 or 2 if you prefer. I don’t know about you guys, but my favorite part of drinking sangria is eating all the alcohol soaked fruit in my glass. It’s a drink that’s also a snack!
Make a pitcher of it today and enjoy a glass whilst sitting outside by your fire pit. At least that’s what I’d do if I had a fire pit. Also make some s’mores while you’re at it. While wrapped up in a cozy blanket scarf. Ok I’m done. 🙂
