How And Why You Should Shop Small

If you don’t own a small business, it may be hard to understand the gravity of the end of the fourth quarter. But this year especially, these next few weeks could make or break small businesses. This is when the majority of small businesses make a high percentage of their yearly income. And while Shelby and I would love you to considering shopping at our small business, The Sister Market, all we ask is that you support as many small business as possible during the next 6 weeks. Want us to be around? Shop with us. Love a local restaurant? Order takeout. Whatever it is, please consider shopping small or many small businesses will not survive 2020. I wanted to share how any why you should shop small this holiday season and show your favorite small businesses some love and support!

YOU’RE SUPPORTING SOMEONE’S DREAM (AND INCOME)

Every small business owner started their business for a reason. During these uncertain times please consider shopping small so business owners are able to keep their dream alive.

THOUGHTFUL PACKAGING AND HANDWRITTEN NOTES

Small shops spend more time thoughtfully packaging your order to make the act of opening it an experience in itself. In a year that you may not be giving gifts in person, you can rest easy knowing your gift will be packaged and shipped with the recipient in mind.

DISCOVER UNIQUE ITEMS

Find cool and unique gifts by discovering new local brands and small shops that your loved ones will covet. Shopping small during the holidays definitely deserves some bragging rights!

ENGAGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

If you are in a place where you cannot financially support a small business right now, please engage on social media. Following, liking, commenting, and most importantly, sharing social media posts, can go a long way to help a small business—all at zero financial cost to you!

PREPAY NOW FOR FUTURE PURCHASES

Consider purchasing a gift card so you can infuse cash into the small business now and receive the goods or services at a later date.

HAVE PATIENCE WHEN EXPECTING AN ORDER

Please keep in mind that the pandemic has disrupted supply chains and shifted work flows which is slowing down deliveries. If your small business order is delayed give it some time, it is likely not in the business’ control. Order early to allow plenty of time to receive as most shipping carriers are experiencing their own delays.

SEND DIRECT EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Share your thoughts and love directly! Happy with your purchase? Send a quick DM or e-mail letting the small business know! These little notes of encouragement are EVERYTHING to a small business and this gesture of connectivity means a lot to us.
