My Favorite Part Of My Day
I’ve been meditating for years now. I picked it up back in 2015/2016 when my anxiety was at its height. I truly believe that meditation is what helped me get through and I haven’t stopped since. The true definition of meditation is the process of quieting the mind in order to spend time in thought for relaxation or religious/spiritual purposes. The best part, is that meditation can be anything you want it to be. If you like to say mantras, go for it. If meditation is just sitting in a room by yourself, more power to you! To me, meditation is whatever you need it to be for yourself.
I remember the very first time I fully meditated and felt that out of body experience. I felt like I was staring at myself outside of my body. I was aware, but I also couldn’t move. It sounds scary, but it was such a cool moment that I still think about to this day. I started out using a 10 minute meditation on a yoga app, but have since moved on to subscribing to Calm. What I love about Calm is that there are so many different options from reducing anxiety to just overall mindfulness. There is also music and sleep stories to help you fall asleep.

I scroll through the app and pick a meditation that best helps with what I’m going through that day, then I place an eye pillow over my eyes and get to work. The most important thing is to find a position that’s comfortable for you. For me, that is laying down in my bed. For a lot of people it is sitting up. Meditation is personalized to you, so do whatever feels comfortable.
Most of the meditations on the app are around 10 minutes, which I think is the perfect amount. It is a mixture of music, relaxing on your own, and guided meditation. It’s something that is now just part of my bedtime routine, and I wouldn’t change a thing!
Have you ever meditated before!? Do you use it as a tool in your every day life?
