I love french fries. I don’t trust people who don’t like french fries. A good french fry is better than chocolate. And I love chocolate. Especially dark chocolate. What would a chocolate covered french fry taste like?! OMG, that’s such a brilliant idea. I must try that immediately. I suppose it would taste similar to a chocolate covered potato chip, which i also love, but anyways, I digress…..
While in Amsterdam last summer I stumbled upon the remarkable Chipsy King. You could get a giant box of french fries with a choice of over 20 amazing dipping sauces for 3.50 euros. To locals it’s probably like McDonald’s, but to me, it was heaven. I had that lovely box of french fries for dinner multiple times. In fact, thinking back, I think all I ate in Amsterdam was french fries or dutch pancakes. And before you ask, my food choices had nothing to do with any cravings one could get after a visit to an Amsterdam “coffee shop”. This is just business as normal for me, ha ha.
While wandering through Soho a few weeks ago, Shelby and I did a double take when we walked past a food truck serving french fries with a giant Chipsy King logo on the side of the truck. After a quick google search, we learned that indeed, this was the same Chipsy King we loved so much in Amsterdam. In true New York City fashion, in this American version, you get less fries for more money and you pay extra for most dipping sauces, but, it was CHIPSY KING!
The fries were just as yummy as we remembered, and the dipping sauce we chose (rosmery garlic mayo) was delicious, but at $9 for a cone of fries and dipping sauce we found ourselves missing the giant box of fries from the original Chipsy King. It was a fun find though and one of the things I love so much about this city. The truck moves around to various New York City locations, so if you have a french fry craving be sure to follow them on social media to find out where the truck is parked.
