Acai bowls have been the go to breakfast of 2015. I’ve tried them from many different juice shops around the city, but I have one problem with them. They all contain banana. As most of you may know Ashley and I do not like bananas. I don’t hate them as much as Ashley, but I still prefer for them to not be in my food. So, I had to come up with my own. I love Juice Generation’s peanut butter acai bowl, so I decided to take a stab at my own version.
The main ingredient you will need is acai. You can buy it at most health food shops. It comes in a frozen pack like I used here, or a powdered version. A little bit goes a long way with Acai. Acai berries are found in the amazon and they are rich in antioxidants. You can read more about all of the health benefits here.
As long as you have the Acai, anything else you put in is truly up to you. I put in a handful of mixed berries, pineapple, raw cacao powder, orange juice, almond milk, and a mixture of old fashioned oats, chia seeds, and hemp seeds. It’s all up to your discretion how much you put in of each thing. To make it even better I add peanut butter or almond butter just to get a little extra protein.
Pour all of your ingredients into a blender or nutri- bullet and whiz away.
Pour into a bowl and top with your favorite ingredients. I chose strawberries, granola, and a dollop of peanut butter.
I absolutely love having an acai bowl for breakfast. It wakes me up and allows me to start my day with a ton of nutrients and antioxidants. Do you like acai bowls? What do you put in yours? Let us know in the comments below.
