Royal News | Princess Charlotte

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born this past Saturday, May 2nd. In case you are somehow not aware, Shelby and I are huge fans of the British Royal family. England was the first foreign country either of us visited, and both of us studied abroad there while in college (or while at university, as the British would say). When we awoke to the news Saturday morning we anxiously watched a livestream of footage from outside the Lindo Wing at Saint Mary’s hospital to catch the first glance of the new little princess.

Can we pause for a minute and talk about how great Kate looked?! She gave birth less than 10 hours prior to standing on those steps. TEN HOURS PEOPLE! What a feat! She looked radiant in this yellow floral print Jenny Packham dress, Annoushka pearl drop earrings, John Lewis “Barely There” sheer tights, and nude Jimmy Choo “Gilbert” shoes.

I’ve thought the whole time that it was a girl. Funnily enough, both my mom and I had dreams that it would be a girl. In my dream, Kate and I were besties and she invited me over to the palace for a sleepover! If only that dream could come true! Anyways….

The first glance of the new royal baby was brief, but you could immediately see the resemblance between her and big brother George. In fact, probably my favorite moment from Saturday is when William went to go pick up George and brought him into the hospital to meet his little sister. Look at those chubby cheeks!

The name Charlotte Elizabeth Diana has lots of family ties on both sides. Charlotte is Kate’s sister, Pippa’s, middle name. It is also a prominent name in the ancestry of the British Royal family. Charlotte is the feminine version of Charles, a possible nod to Will’s father Prince Charles. Elizabeth, is obviously the name of the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth, but it is also Kate’s middle name, as well as her mother Carole Middleton’s. And Diana is a sweet tribute to William and Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.

When George was born almost two years ago there was a bit more fanfare. He is third in line to the throne after all, and the first born of the next generation of royals. Just like with princess Charlotte, Shelby and I watched the introduction of little George play out on live TV and celebrated by indulging in a Sprinkles cupcake in his honor.

Just over four years ago, like many Americans, we woke up at 3AM to watch the Royal Wedding live. We even threw ourselves a little tea party for the occasion complete with tea, scones, and cupcakes of course! We look for any excuse for a tea party in this family.

Ignore how hideous we look (and remember it was 3AM) but we donned our fascinators enjoyed our snacks, and watched mesmerized as Kate arrived, walked down the very long aisle at Westminster Abby, and married her prince. A real life fairytale.

Hey Prince Harry, we’re single!

Our congratulations to William and Kate on the newest member of their family! Can’t wait to meet her the next time I come over for a sleepover at the palace.

Ashley xx
