My Thumb Is Not Green
Plants and greenery are very popular home decor choices at the moment, and I am so on board that train. I love the aesthetic that plants bring to a room. They just make a room come alive. Which is ironic because I have a secret, all the plants in our apartment are fake. As in not alive. But they give off that same look and feel, without me having to remember to water them. That’s really the issue, if I’m being honest. I’m awful at remembering to water plants. I have no problem taking care of myself, or even a dog, but for some reason plants are just something I cannot keep alive. Succulents are supposed to be pretty hard to kill. But oh don’t worry, apparently I found a way.
I recently had a pretty good streak going with a plant. I was gifted a beautiful plant after my surgery last year, and I managed to keep it alive for about 6 months. Hey, that’s a record for me! I put it in Shelby’s room one day on the windowsill behind her bed, because that’s the best natural light in our apartment, and the plant was looking a bit sad so I thought some sun might cheer it up. Well, you can maybe guess what happened. I forgot I put it there. Cue about a month later when Shelby asks me to remove the dead plant from her room.
With as much as we travel, our lifestyle isn’t really conducive to having real plants anyway. So I’ve become a bit of a pro at sourcing fake plants that I can’t kill. There are several places that sell really good ones, but most of ours are either from Target or Ikea. We have them scattered around every room in out apartment.
My newest acquisition is this faux fiddle leaf fig plant. I love it! It’s the perfect size to fill this awkward corner of space in my room.
Do you have a green thumb? How long have you kept a plant alive? Tell me your ways! Or are you more of a faux succulent kind of gal? Where do you find your treasures?
