It’s almost time for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! It’s actually a few weeks later this year due to, well, the mess that is 2020. We’re very aware that a lot of people are not interested in shopping the sale this year, and we get it. We’re barely leaving the house so we really don’t have a need for a lot of new clothes and shoes. That being said, there are a few basic, staple items that we both need and are planning to scoop up during the sale. So we thought we’d share the items we have our eyes on ahead of the sale if you need some ideas or recommendations.
A couple of key things if you’re new to shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale-
1. This sale is so fun (and the ONLY one we ever shop) because it’s BRAND NEW stuff hitting the store that’s on sale. It’s not end of season spring/summer product. It’s new fun fall stuff! And since that’s our favorite season to shop for, that makes this sale so fun for us.
2. Keep in mind Nordstrom offers free shipping/returns on EVERY purchase. That means you can purchase online with peace of mind that you can easily return anything you don’t love, and you don’t have any added shipping expense.
3. NEW THIS YEAR- Nordstrom is allowing you to preview the sale before it goes live, AND (this is huge)- add items to your wishlist! That means that when the sale goes live you can just quickly add the items you want to your cart and check out. Since popular items are sure to sell out, planning ahead of time will enable you to secure the pieces you want.
4. If you are a Nordstrom credit card holder you get early access to the sale. How early depends on what your status is. We are both Insider status so we’ll get to start shopping on 8/13. The sale goes live for everyone on 8/19. We encourage you to shop as soon as you can as sizes, colors, and items will disappear FAST! If something was out of stock that you wanted, or it currently isn’t available in your size or color keep checking back as typically things are constantly getting restocked throughout the sale.
The items we are mainly interested in this year are loungewear (because who is actually leaving the house right now?), activewear, and cold weather staples. There were a few sweaters that caught our eye, but overall we feel like the real winners from the sale are in these 3 categories.
Loungewear:
The BP loungewear set will probably be the most popular of the sale. The sweatshirt and joggers are sold separately, but both are under $25. It comes in a bunch of colors and prints, but this tie dye is our favorite.
These Zella joggers are great because they are a bit more duel purpose in that you could work out in them or just wear them as athleisure.
We both buy a new pj set every year. These are our absolute favorites. There is a long sleeve pants version or a short sleeve shorts set. Whichever your preference, we guarantee you that you’ll be obsessed! Ashley has her eye on the burgundy and Shelby wants the grey.
This is also a great time to snag a deal on a new pair of slippers, and you can’t go wrong with these from Ugg.
Activewear:
We are both on the hunt for a new pair of sneakers this year. All of this walking around NYC over the past 5 months of quarantine has been rough on our shoes. Ashley has her eye on this pair in black and Shelby is eyeing this white pair of Nikes.
Shelby is obsessed with this Zella sports bra and will be purchasing it in several colors as well as these socks.
Cold Weather Staples:
We are both in the market for a new lightweight winter jacket this year. Ashley is obsessed with this one from Patagonia in the pink color. Shelby is considering this one from Patagonia in black. She likes that it has a hood.
We also both love this jacket from The North Face. Maybe we’ll get it and share it, haha.
Ashley bought this pullover from Patagonia last year in grey and loves it so much she’s going to get it again in a different color. Shelby is probably going to grab one in grey too. It’s a little pricey, but one of those classic staples that you’ll have for years. And it wears really well- Ashley’s still looks brand new and she’s worn it a ton.
Sweaters:
We just very quickly scrolled through sweaters. We don’t really NEED any, but this one caught both of our eyes. It looks like Madewell but it’s actually from the brand Chelsea 28. Ashley might order it.
There are always a bunch of great cardigans in the sale. This grey one from Topshop looks very cozy, and would pair well with all that loungewear, haha.
Beauty:
We don’t typically shop the beauty deals during the sale for no reason other than we usually spend all of our budget on clothes and shoes. But there were a few great deals we spotted this year that we wanted to highlight.
This Olaplex set is a GREAT deal. We both use Olaplex shampoo and conditioner and the No. 3 Hair Perfector treatment is amazing. The 8.5 oz size bottle of that alone is $56, so the fact that this whole set isn’t much more than that makes this a steal.
Ashley has been using this Ouai leave in conditioner lately. It doesn’t leave your hair greasy or sticky and it smells AMAZING! This set is a good deal because the leave in conditioner alone is $26. So it’s worth getting if you want to try the hair oil too!
We’ve heard great things about the products from Necessaire but haven’t tried them ourselves yet. We might pick up this set to give them a try!
There are many items that are part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale every year. Some are the exact same while others are updated or offered in new colors. So while we are not purchasing these items this year, they are some of our well loved tried and true favorites- and they are all part of the sale this year!
This Madewell cardigan is a classic. It’s so soft and comes in some great colors. We both own several already, but love this olive green offered this year!
The Spanx faux leather leggings are another fall staple we live in during the cooler months. Add a cardigan and some booties and you’re all set!
Ashley bought this cowl neck sweater in the beige oatmeal color in the sale last year and it ended up being her favorite thing she purchased. It’s great quality, super soft (not itchy at all!) and just overall a really cozy sweater. The exact sweater is part of this years sale (and comes in a few other colors) so grab one if you are in the market for a new sweater!
This blanket was a bit of an impulse purchase last year, but we both have one and it is a great blanket for under $25. Holds up well once washed, stays soft, and comes in a million colors. Also makes a great gift. Highly recommend!
A new bra perhaps isn’t the most exciting purchase, but it’s also the sort of thing that’s great to grab on sale. This Natori feathers bra is all either of us wear now. It’s great!
If you are looking for a denim jacket this oversized one from Madewell is awesome. We both have it. Most women’s denim jackets are cropped (why?!) but this one has the perfect fit.
If you need some new work out leggings you cannot go wrong with these Zella ones. We both already have a bunch in various colors so that’s the only reason we are not planning to purchase any this year.
The Barefoot Dreams cardigan is always a popular item. There are a few various styles and colors on sale. They are great, but a little pricey. In looking at them in the sale preview we noticed the price looked cheaper. We looked back at our past purchases and low and behold they are all on sale for about $10 cheaper this year than they have been in the past few years. For that reason alone, this is a great deal to jump on.
Happy Shopping!
Love,
Ash and Shelbs
