Last weekend I received the great pleasure of getting the VIP treatment at Studio Cafe at the newly reopened Whitney Museum here in New York. I was excited not only to visit the museum, but to try some of the greatest food in lower Manhattan. I headed up to the 8th floor to grab an intoxicating view of the city before sitting down for lunch.
I was greeted by the most lovely waitstaff and showed to my table by the bar. This was actually my first time dining by myself, so it was a new experience in a lot of ways. I started off with an almond milk latte. The cafe brews Stumptown which I was very excited about.
My first course was the chicken tortilla soup. The broth was some of the best I have ever had. The avocados and white cheddar just sent it right over the edge of being phenomenal. Growing up in Texas I have had a lot of varieties of tortilla soup. This one definitely ranks in my top 5. If I could change anything I would make it a little spicier.
The second course was the kale salad. It consisted of kale, corn, eggs, and a tomatillo dressing. I’m a big kale fan so I was very excited to try this. It didn’t disappoint. The kale was in smaller pieces which is exactly how I like it. It was light, but could also be treated as a meal.
My third course was my absolute favorite. I was brought the melted cheddar open faced toast. It consisted of cheddar and Gruyere topped with a green tomato jam. Gruyere cheese is one of my top cheeses, so if it’s on a dish I usually order it. This was the perfect end to the meal.
I ended the meal with their homemade strawberry mint soda. It was the sweetness that I needed to top off my palette.
Overall I had an amazing experience. I highly suggest popping in for a veryvnice lunch whilst you are visiting the museum. You won’t be disappointed. I don’t think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. The menu often changes, so I can’t wait to go back and see what is new to the menu.
Let us know in the comments below if you have ever been to Studio Cafe.
