Where We Stayed, What We Did, Where We Ate

Tivoli, New York | Travel Diary

Hi y’all! What a whirlwind the last 4 1/2 months have been right? We had a lot of plans for this year, and lots of trips we were excited about going on….well Covid-19 really changed our plans didn’t they. Thank goodness we only had one trip fully booked, so we only had to cancel that one. New York is in phase 3 of reopening right now, so we finally felt comfortable getting out there and doing something. We still haven’t been inside a grocery store though. Whole Foods on Amazon Prime has saved our lives during quarantine!

We have explored some cities in the Hudson Valley, but definitely not as many as we want. We wanted to find a place that was secluded, under 2 hours away so we didn’t have to make any stops, an airbnb that allowed dogs, and somewhere that had social distanced activities. We found the cutest airbnb in Tivoli, booked it right away, and a couple weeks later we were off! Let me start off by saying that we highly recommend this airbnb. The owners were so nice and incredibly helpful. The house was exactly what we wanted. You can check out the listing here.

After we arrived we explored the property a little bit, then drove into town. The house was about 9 minutes from the center of town. We walked around then picked up dinner from Santa Fe. If there is a mexican restaurant you will always find the 3 of us there! We took it back to the house and had a cute little family dinner. As much as I loved the dinner, I was way more excited for the next part of the night. Our hosts at the airbnb suggested that we go to a drive in theater. I absolutely jumped at the idea because none of us had ever been to one before. Looking back on it now, we all say that this was our favorite part of the trip. The closest one was about a 30 minute drive but it is absolutely worth it! We arrived about an hour and a half before the movie started because we wanted to make sure that we had a good spot. We grabbed some popcorn, and settled in to watch Jaws. None of us had actually ever seen Jaws either, so it was a lot of new experiences for us.

The next day we knew there was supposed to be some really bad thunderstorms so we woke up really early to go strawberry picking before they started. We go apple picking every single year in September, but we’ve never been at other times of the year. This was actually the last weekend for strawberries, so it was a little tough to find some good ones, but we persevered and found a bunch! Poppy loves coming to farms with us. Well, she loves anything that is outside! Greig Farm was the perfect local place to go!

After strawberries we drove back into town to pick up some coffee. We went to Tivoli Bread & Baking Co. I also couldn’t pass up their apricot scone! I’m a sucker for baked goods!

The rain started almost immediately after that and lasted until about 3 P.M. We spend the afternoon relaxing in the cottage, watching the rain, napping, and listening to music. It was honestly the perfect afternoon!

One of the things Ashley requested to do was to drive up to Hudson, NY. It was about a 20 minute drive from our house. We walked around for a little bit, but we really didn’t want to go inside anywhere. It’s on our list to head back there when the pandemic is over. There are a lot of antique stores that our mom would love!

We then drove back to Tivoli to pick up some ice cream. Our hosts at our airbnb actually own Fortunes Ice Cream, and it did not disappoint! It was the perfect sweet treat that we needed! They have some really cool flavors, and several that are vegan.

The rest of the night we just hung out at the house and played games and drank wine. It was absolutely perfect.

The hardest part of any of these trips is leaving. We always have such a great time, so it’s really hard to leave. We can’t wait for even more adventures!
