How To Dress For Spring In The City
Since tomorrow is the first official day of spring, I thought I’d share an updated what to pack for New York City list that is updated for the change in season! Spring in New York City is typically still pretty chilly, but overall the weather can be very varied. For example, while it technically wasn’t spring last week, last Friday the temperatures hit 71 degrees and today as I’m posting this the high temperature is 44 degrees. You just never really know what you’re going to get. Which makes it very hard to know what to wear. But it is nice to shed the puffer coat and snow boots for lightweight sweaters, rain jackets, breezy dresses and sandals. In these photos I’m wearing what I like to call my “early spring” uniform. Light layers that keep you warm enough on those cooler spring days, but are easy to shed if it gets too warm. Those first warm days of the year New Yorkers come out of hibernation and migrate to the parks. We spread ourselves across park benches, picnic blankets, with iced coffees, headphones, and a good book and let the sunshine thaw our frozen bodies. If you’re planning a trip to New York City in the spring, here is what you should bring with you.

Packing Guide:
- Lightweight Sweaters – Leave your thick wool turtleneck sweaters at home, but in early spring it is still cool enough for a lightweight sweater. Opt for a fun color or pattern like this one or this one.
- Midi Skirt – On a warmer day, a cute midi skirt is the way to go. I love this pleated one or this one with buttons down the front.
- Floral Dress or Jumpsuit – Something comfortable enough that you can wear around the city during the day but could transition to an evening out seeing a Broadway show. Love the pattern on this dress, and the bright color of this one. This jumpsuit is great for a warm spring day and this one would be super cute paired with a denim jacket.
- Cropped Jeans – Because it’s finally warm enough to show a little ankle! I love the distressing on these, but if you’re not into that these are a great classic pair.
- Jacket – This is still a must during the spring months. Even on a warmer day, the mornings and nights will still be chilly. This rain jacket is so cute! I can’t decide if I like the pink or the green better.
- Sneakers – Cute comfy sneakers are really a must for walking around and exploring New York City during any season, but during the spring I like to wear a fun color. This season I’m feeling pink, and have my eye on these Vans, these Nikes, or these Adidas sneakers.
- Sandals – In the warmer spring months, throw on a pair of cute sandals like these or these floral heels for dinner one evening.
To make things super easy, I’ve pulled together 6 different spring outfits ranging from casual to dressy that would each serve you well for a trip to New York City, but also even if you are just looking for some spring shopping inspiration. My spring shopping list just got a little longer pulling this together…
