All Of The Places We Enjoyed On Our Trip
Just like in Seattle, we ate at a lot of great places during our short time in Portland, OR! If you missed our Portland travel diary click here. But first, here is where to eat in Portland.

Around the corner from our hotel we found Picnic House, which was exactly what we needed. The space was so cute and the menu concept was so cute! Basically you can order individual items or you can “have a picnic” and get smaller portions of multiple items to try. Everything we ordered was delicious!
The next morning we knew we had a long day of walking and exploring ahead of us, so we wanted to fuel up. We ended up at Imperial where I ate the best breakfast potatoes I’ve ever had. And the coffee from Water Avenue was excellent! Highly recommend this spot!

To be honest, I feel like this place belongs in Dallas (the blue star being a reference to the Dallas Cowboys) but maybe I’m just saying that because I’m bitter it isn’t in Dallas, and I can’t have it more frequently. We each ordered a different donut to try and they were all very yummy.
After walking a little more, we stopped by Stumptown to sit and grab a coffee. We have Stumptown in New York City, and buy their coffee all the time at grocery stores, but it was still fun to visit one of their Portland locations where they are based.

We ordered two pizzas to share, and they were delicious, but the real star of the evening was our starter- the crispy polenta cakes! Seriously, so good!

We had most of the day to explore before we had to drive back to Seattle to catch our red eye flight back home. To fuel up for the day, we headed to Mother’s Bistro & Bar. This reminded us a lot of Sarabeth’s. Our server kept our mugs full of coffee, which was very much appreciated, and he even brought us to go cups with our check! A very nice touch. With our tummies full of eggs, biscuits and gravy, and pumpkin pancakes, we headed off to get… donuts.

Be aware they only take cash. I ate mine later when I was driving, and it was good but very sweet. I personally preferred Blue Star better.
[one_half padding=”0 3px 0 0″][/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 0 0 3px”][/one_half_last]We had heard about a farmer’s market in the park directly behind our hotel, so before we checked out we walked over and grabbed some fruit and veggies to take with us out to the waterfall for lunch. The market was small compared to the Union Square Greenmarket we are used to, but it was fun to see all the locals popping in on their lunch break from work from the surrounding offie buildings to purchase their produce for the week.
Our last stop on our way out of Portland was Salt and Straw ice cream. We’d heard great things about this ice cream shop, and were excited to try their unique flavors. Luckily the staff working behind the counter let us try pretty much every single flavor they offer. When we couldn’t decide, they offered to let us split a scoop- giving us half a scoop of one and half a scoop of another. The olive oil flavor was very interesting, and surprisingly a lot sweeter than I was expecting, but I ended up with the cinnamon snickerdoodle and cold brew coffee and chocolate flavors.
Where are your favorite spots to eat in Portland? We’ll add them to our list for next time!
