Yellowstone National Park

A Day Full of Snow And Bison

Yellowstone National Park

Hey Y’all! So we told you all about Jackson Hole and Grand Teton! Now it’s time to share everything we got up to in Yellowstone National Park. Like we’ve said several times before, we have both been before but we were really little and it was during the summer. This was a completely different experience visiting in the winter.

There is one road in Yellowstone that is open all year round and that is the north entrance. Two days before our trip the west entrance opened, so that’s where we headed from Jackson. It was a 3 hour drive, so we left at 4:30 in the morning. We talked about it over in our vlog, but it was by far the scariest drive we have ever done. It was pitch black through the mountains in a blizzard, and the roads had not been plowed yet. It was just unfortunate circumstances, so don’t let that deter you from going this time of year. If we had waited until it was light it wouldn’t have been much of an issue. Part of our drive was also through a national forest, so we stopped off on the side of the road to take some pictures in the beautiful snow and trees.

Once we got into the park we headed straight down the road to Old Faithful. We made several stops along the way and had many encounters with bison. To me, bison are just like cows. They don’t really bother you, but they are always walking on the roads in the park. They are pretty cool, and it was really awesome to be that close to them. The wildlife in the parks are amazing. We never saw any bears, but we did see one more moose that was too far away to get a good picture.

There are so many geysers in Yellowstone. Most of them in the world are there actually. There is also a collection of them in Iceland as well that we got to see when we were there a few years ago. Funny story, last time we were at Yellowstone my mom and I didn’t get to see Old Faithful erupt up close. I used to be a really picky eater and was even more stubborn than I am now. I decided that was the day that I wasn’t going to eat my lunch, so I got punished and had to stay inside until I finished. Unfortunately that meant my mom didn’t get to see it either. That was a common occurrence during our trips when we were young. Good thing I got to see it up close this time! You see that building in the back of that last photo….that’s where mom and I watched Old Faithful from! Sorry Mom! 🙂

It was really cool that the weather was so completely different from Grand Teton to Yellowstone. Seeing Yellowstone covered in snow was completely magical.

Don’t forget to watch our vlog below of our entire trip! Now the countdown to our next one begins! Do you know where we are headed!?
