NYC Staycation | 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

Experience The Things In Your Own Backyard

The Perfect NYC Staycation

To celebrate Shelby turning 25 this past weekend, we decided to have a little staycation. Since moving to NYC, we’ve only stayed in a hotel a couple of times, both of which were when we were moving apartments, and that was more out of function than a cool hotel experience. We live in Manhattan, and don’t venture to Brooklyn too often (unless it’s for Smorgasburg) so we decided that a night at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge would be the perfect mini getaway for our staycation.

We checked in and headed up to our room and immediately dug into the birthday cake from Milk Bar that our parents surprised Shelby with. They have THE BEST cakes and their birthday cake truffles are one of my favorite things.

Our room (and the whole hotel) had such cool vibes. There are touches of nature in every room. The scent that was pumped into the lobby was very reminiscent of what you would find in Hollister. Our room overlooked the East River and offered views of the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and downtown Manhattan.

After we had our fill of cake, we headed up to the rooftop bar to grab some cocktails (and french fries, obviously) to enjoy the sunset over the Manhattan skyline. One of my favorite parts of this part of Brooklyn are the gorgeous skyline views it offers. The weather was a perfectly crisp 60 degree sunny fall day, which was perfect to soak in the warm glow of the sunset, cocktail in hand.

After the sun had set, we walked around the corner to pick up a pizza to go. Shelby had previously declared that all she wanted to do for her birthday was to sit in a robe in our hotel and eat pizza and do face masks. So that’s what we did! We’d never had Grimaldi’s pizza before, but it’s a pretty famous spot and always has a line out the door every time I’ve been by it. I have to say though, the pizza wasn’t that great. I’ve definitely had way better pizza in NYC.

Before checking out, we headed to Neighbor’s Cafe for a coffee and a bite to eat. This cute spot is convenient for hotel guests, but as we sat sipping on our coffees, we saw plenty of locals walk in from the back door situated right off Brooklyn Bridge Park to grab their morning coffee and breakfast to go.

It’s from Zara! I don’t think it is in stock online anymore, but you might be able to find it in store! 🙂
