To Get Your Day Started Off On A Positive Note
Along with the new health and wellness things we are doing this month, we have re-focused our morning routine. My previous morning routine consisted of immediately drinking a cup of coffee, mindlessly scrolling through my Instagram feed, and probably skipping breakfast (or at best grabbing a late morning protein bar). Mornings are always a busy time for anyone, so here are 3 tips for a healthier morning routine.
Cleanse
Start each morning by cleansing your system. We’ve started making an apple cider vinegar concoction that we drink every morning before breakfast. Apple cider vinegar (or ACV for short) is SO good for you. It helps to boost gut health, enhances weight loss, lowers cholesterol, improves skin health, and reduces blood pressure just to name a few. We take ours in a mug with hot water, lemon, ginger powder, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Fuel
The saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” exists for a reason. Neither of us are big breakfast people. If we eat breakfast, it is always several hours after we wake up. We’re just not those kind of people who hop out of bed ready to eat right away. But with a protein filled breakfast, we find ourselves with more energy throughout the day. One of the most challenging things with the AIP protocol we are both currently following, is breakfast. When you can’t have eggs, dairy, gluten, or sugar, that doesn’t leave you with a ton of traditional breakfast options. So we’ve had to get creative. We’ve tried a few different recipes we’ve really loved, but these bacon and herb sausage biscuit sandwiches from The Healing Kitchen have been our favorite!
Stay Informed
I always feel a bit off if I don’t check in on the news first thing in the morning. Like a lot of people, I do get a chunk of my news from social media. I also recently subscribed to the New York Times, and have really enjoyed starting my day by scrolling through the top stories every morning as I’m sipping my ACV. It was one of my goals to make time for this in the mornings. Doing this helps to wake your mind up and feel prepared for the day. A lot of you reached out after I published my podcast post last year, noting that you frequently listen to podcasts in the morning when you get ready for the day. I love this if you don’t have a lot of time and are trying to rush out the door, but still want to be updated on current events.
Ok, now it’s your turn. What are the things that you incorporate into your morning routine that help you start your day off on the right foot? Or what are the parts of your morning you wish you could improve upon? Let’s get a conversation started in the comments and help each other out!
